This plan is an international private health insurance plan developed by Swisscare and covers a range of treatments especially for foreign students, which are set out in detail in the Swiss Federal Act. Swiss health insurance law :According to the Federal Health Insurance Act (KVG / LAMal), health insurance coverage is compulsory for all persons domiciled in Switzerland within three months of taking up residence or being born in the country.
What is the exemption formulary :
According the Federal Health Insurance Act (KVV / Oamal) art. 2.3 and 2.4, International students, researchers, internships and family members can be exempted from compulsory Swiss public health insurance if they have proof of an equivalent health insurance coverage of a foreign insurance company.
The cantons have different criteria and apply the law individually. To obtain an exemption, each person must individually send an exemption form (Swisscare offers this service for free)
If all the requirements are fulfilled, the cantons in Switzerland accept to deliver the exemptions. Ag, Ne, Sh, Ti.
Students choose this possibility to save money during their studies in Switzerland. Compulsory health insurance in Switzerland is very expensive for foreign people who stay temporarily in Switzerland.
